Why Education Matters

Many people ask us why our funds go primarily to educational efforts.

There are a couple of answers:

  • We, along with the people living in the slums of Nairobi, believe education changes lives.  They know that, if a child receives an education, they are more likely to get out of the slums.  An education for a child can be as simple as learning to sew or to weld.  Or it can be as complex as working hard to receive the support and ability to go to college.
  • The children have hope that through education, they can journey out of the slum to a stronger future.  They love school.  Some walk miles through dangerous streets everyday just to go to school.  One student at the New Dawn Academy says: "So, when we got an education, now our minds are very focused, targeting to be very great people of this country and together with the whole world."
  • Ellie's dream started after seeing photographs of kids who did not have access to food, shelter, healthcare and education.  Most of all, she was surprised by the fact that these kids didn't even go to school.  So, she made it her goal to raise funds for kids to go to school.

We could tell you statistics upon statistics why education matters in developing country.  But, instead, we just share with you our belief and our heart that we share with the people of Africa about the ability for education to change lives.
